Vidyaranyapura is situated in the north-west part of Bangalore, about 3,050 ft (930 m) above the sea level,at 13°05′ N and 77°33′ E.
It is a composite locality comprising multiple sub-blocks and layouts, namely AMS Layout, Balaji Layout, Defence Colony, Nanjappa Layout, Srinidhi layout, BEL (Bharat Electronics Ltd.) layout, HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) layout, NTI (National Tuberculosis Institute) layout.
Vidyaranyapura is located close to some of the big government sector factories like BEL [Bharat Electronics Limited] and HMT [Hindustan Machine Tools]. Mohammad Sab Palya, an extension of Byatarayanapura, is a Muslim-dominated area, unlike Vidyaranyapura, which is about four kilometers from the heart of this locality.
The land prices of Vidyaranyapura have always been low considering its distance from the main city. However, an increasing number of commercial outlets that have been opening up lately, the price has increased steadily.
The primary language is Kannada although Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam is also spoken widely.
